All it took was a posting on the German Voluntary Monitoring Organization of Entertainment Software Website called “Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle” to kick off the hottest music video game rumor this year. The German video game ratings board may have inadvertently broke the news on a new installment of Guitar Hero featuring Van Halen. This would be the third GH game solely dedicated to one artist (previous installments were created for Metallica & Aerosmith).

Could this be Activision's ace in the hole to compete with rival company's Beatles themed Rock Band game later this year? Rolling Stone speculates on the particulars.... if the game DOES exist.

Since Activision hasn’t confirmed the game exists, they haven’t let on whether such a title would feature all three lead singers — David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, Gary Cherone — or both bassists Mike Anthony and Wolfgang Van Halen. Additionally, no word whether it would just feature songs spanning the band’s whole career or just the Diamond Dave era.
